Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Carabao Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg Preview
The Carabao Cup semifinal second leg between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur takes place on Thursday Evening.
Spurs head to Anfield with a 1 goal lead after the first leg and will be looking to taking a step closer to breaking their infamous trophy less streak.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the second leg at Anfield.
The First Leg
A cagey affair played out at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with Spurs looking the stronger side for the large portion of the game heavily boosted by a raucous home crowd.
An 86th minute Lucas Bergvall strike caused controversy from fans of the reds but nonetheless placed the lilywhites in the driving seat for the reverse leg in Merseyside.
Team News
Liverpool are knocking on full strength with only Joe Gomez confirmed to be out with a hamstring injury.
However Trent Alexander-Arnold came off with a knock against Bournemouth and is likely to be left out against Spurs after scans indicated he’d be out for days instead of long term.
Spurs are on the complete reverse end of the injury numbers with a potential nine players still sidelined.
Names such as Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Cristian Romero are all out with injuries leaving Spurs heavily second string.
Players to Watch
Liverpool - Mohamed Salah
The first leg came in what was a dry patch by Salah’s exceptional numbers and he lacked any impact on the 1-0 loss.
Four goals in the last four games in all competitions shows the Egyptian is getting back into his groove and a boisterous Anfield crowd could unlock the best of Salah which Liverpool desperately need.
Tottenham Hotspur- Heung-Min Son
Son is a similar player to Salah in their form dictates how they change games. Son only has two goals in the past four but Spurs in general seem to be reaching some better form as a squad.
His lethal finishing paired with a Liverpool team pushing for a win opportunities could come plenty for Son and you’d back him to make them count.
How to watch the game
The game is scheduled for an 8:00 kick off on Thursday evening and is available in the UK on Sky Sports Main event, Sky Sports Ultra and Sky Sports+ as well as ITV1 and ITVX.
