Manchester United Must Sign Patrick Dorgu Alternative for Incredible Cut Price

Manchester United are ‘locked’ in talks over the signing of Lecce left back Patrick Dorgu. United have been pursuing the full back heavily in the January transfer window so far.

However, United have bid around €27million for Dorgu which falls short of the valuation by the Italian club by some amount. Despite pursuing Dorgu, Ruben Amorim’s solution for a left back is available for much cheaper.

United have another option in the market screaming out for them to sign. Not only is the player formerly of United, he is available for much cheaper than Dorgu.

United Are Serious About Dorgu

Amorim is seriously in need of a natural left back, with his current options being an injury prone Luke Shaw and a natural right back Noussair Mazraoui.

Tyrell Malacia is possibly set to leave United on loan this month meaning a signing in that position is at the top of the priority list. Dorgu has been identified as that player for a number of reasons.

At just 20, Dorgu has played 20 games for Lecce in Serie A this season. Amongst his 3 goals and 1 assist, Dorgun has completed 78% of passes, kept 3 clean sheets and makes an average of 2 tackles per game.

The 20 year old is undoubtedly a talented player and is also being looked at by Napoli. However, United do not need to overspend on a left back when an option that is just as good, maybe even better is available for much less.

Just Sign Álvaro Carreras

An incredibly smart option for United would be to sign Carreras. The former United player was sold under Erik Ten Hag for a small fee of £5million.

Not only has the left back impressed ever since joining Benfica, his performance against Barcelona in the Champions League almost screams for his former club to resign the Spaniard.

Against Barcelona, Carreras registered 3 tackles, 4 interceptions, an assist and completed 81% of his passes. His seasonal averages in Portugal include an 82% pass completion rate, 7 clean sheets, 2 tackles per game and 5 ball recoveries per game.

Despite Benfica including a £41.8million release clause in the 21 year olds contract, United could resign the player for just £16million. This is due to United inserting a number of financial clauses into the £5million deal.

United Need To Make The Smart Decision

Whilst Dorgu is a talented and well desired player, United are in a horrible position. Not only are United poor on the pitch but financially they’re in a mess off it.

Amorim will know Carreras following his time in Portugal and there is inevitable ability and talent there to work with. United don’t have the choices they once did and must be smarter in the market.

The Spaniard is cheaper and a slight less of a risk than the Dane, given his previous time at Old Trafford. It’s also key to note that United have never stopped scouting Carreras and would clearly be open to seeing the player return.
