Peter Wright Knocks World Number One Luke Humphries Out Of World Darts Championship
World Number One and current reigning World Darts Champion Luke Humphries has been eliminated from the competition in the last 16.
Humphries has been eliminated by two time winner Peter Wright as ‘Snakebite’ is victorious 4 sets to 1.
Ahead of the game, both players exchanged some strong words in their own press conferences before putting on a fantastic display in a tense match on the ‘Ally Pally’ stage.
Wright who hasn’t performed to the best of his ability in 2024 has silenced his critics by defeating ‘Coolhand’.
It was a fantastic encounter to watch with both players pushing each other all the way, Wright won the match with an average of 100.93 hitting 5 180’s.
Humphries averaged 99.23 and now bows out of the tournament guaranteeing a new World Champion in the new year, with the bookies favourite remaining as Luke Littler.
Wright will now face either Stephen Bunting or Luke Woodhouse in the final eight of the tournament. Bunting and Woodhouse face each other tomorrow night as part of the final action before the New Year.
The Scotsman is currently ‘ranked’ as the World Number 13 via the live PDC order of merit and will undoubtedly carry some incredible momentum into the next round of the tournament.
Wright became the second player through to the quarter final following Gerwyn Price who defeated fellow countryman Jonny Clayton 4-2 earlier in the night.
