Portsmouth v Millwall 28th January: EFL Championship Preview and Prediction

Portsmouth host Millwall as the only EFL Championship game to be played this Tuesday. Pompey will be looking to bounce back from a very disappointing result away at West Brom.

Millwall were victorious on the road over the weekend as they took all 3 points from their game against Luton Town. A goal from Mihailo Ivanovic was enough for the Lions to see off their London rivals.

The hosts will be feeling more of the pressure upon their return to Fratton Park on Tuesday night. You can find all the key information ahead of the game here.

Previous Meetings

One side dominates the head to head between these two sides. Millwall have not lost to Pompey in their last 5 encounters which spans over the previous 15 years.

The Lions have won the last four meetings, with the sides yet to meet in the EFL Championship this season. It was the EFL Cup tie at Fratton Park back in August where the sides last met with Millwall winning by a goal to nil.

The previous five meetings between the sides can be found below;

13th August 2024 - Pompey 0-1 Millwall

10th August 2021 - Millwall 2-1 Pompey

10th April 2012 - Pompey 0-1 Millwall

26th December 2011 - Millwall 1-0 Pompey

26th December 2010 - Pompey 1-1 Millwall

Players To Watch

Portsmouth

Freddie Potts is a name to watch ahead of this game. The 21 year old midfielder has been a strong performer for Pompey this season.

1 goal and 4 assists to his name as well as some strong defensive numbers in midfield. Average at least 1 interception, 2 tackles and ball recoveries per game.

Pompey will need a player like Potts to perform at a high standard if they are to pick up a win against Millwall.

Millwall

Japhet Tanganga has been fantastic since his first Millwall appearance. The defender joined the lions permanently from Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

Tanganga has been part of the Lions defence that has kept 10 clean sheets so far. Averaging 4 ball recoveries and 5 clearances per game, the 25 year old has been very solid in the campaign so far.

How To Watch & Kick Off Time

The game kicks off at 7:45pm on Tuesday and is only available to watch on Sky Sports Plus in the United Kingdom. Viewers outside the UK can watch the game on their respective clubs iFollow streaming service.

Prediction

Its another tough second tier to call the result of. However, Pompey’s weekend result has swayed me towards a win for Tuesday's visitors.

We’re predicting a 0-2 win for Millwall against Pompey.
