Tottenham v Leicester City 26th January: Premier League Preview
Tottenham look to win their first Premier League game in 2025 as they welcome an out-of-form Leicester side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with a victory being much needed for both clubs.
Spurs, sitting in 15th, have tasted victory in every competition in recent weeks except the Premier League. Thursday saw them travel to Germany to face Hoffenheim emerging victorious to almost seal their place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
It has been a miserable month for Leicester in the league, losing their last seven games in the league, leaving them in 19th, two points off Wolves. The Foxes last win came in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game as manager, a 3-1 win over West Ham.
Previous Meeting
On the opening Monday night of the season, the Foxes then managed by Steve Cooper secured a draw over Ange Postecoglou’s side on their Premier League return. Pedro Porro had given Spurs the lead on the half hour mark before Leicester’s talisman Jamie Vardy scored as the game ended 1-1.
September 2022 provided a classic between the clubs as Spurs emerged victorious with a 6-2 win over the Foxes in North London. Heung-Min Son’s 13 minute second-half hattrick rounding off this eight-goal encounter.
The following February, Leicester got their revenge on Tottenham as they came from a goal down to win 4-1 at the King Power Stadium. Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Harvey Barnes scored to register a brilliant win despite a disappointing season for the 2016 Premier League champions.
