Natasha Jonas v Lauren Price: Undercard Announced
This afternoon’s Press Conference on Sky Sports Boxing saw the undercard announced for the World Title Main Event between two of Boxxer’s own, Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price, set for the Royal Albert Hall on March 7th.
The undercard includes an all-female lineup including Caroline Dubois, Cindy Ngamba and Karriss Artingstall.
As Boxxer’s third domestic event of the year in three months, the show represents an aim for a stronger year domestically for Ben Shalom and his promotional company.
With last year being made up of just eight shows on British soil, fighter’s and fans alike expressed frustration with the lack of outings for some of their talent.
The card is made up of at least five fights, with a further two expected to fill out the history making card in the Royal Albert Hall. The event will be the first all-female card to take place at the historic venue that has welcomed the likes of Muhammad Ali and more.
The Main Event
The card is headlined by two real inspirations of women’s Boxing, in a 5-title unification bout for Price’s WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine belts, and Jonas’ IBF and WBC silverware. The Welterweight clash represents one of the biggest domestic match-ups Britain has to offer.
Firstly, ‘Miss GB’ Natasha Jonas, the first female British boxer to qualify for the Olympics, representing her nation on home soil at the 2012 Olympic Games.
As a professional, Jonas holds an impressive record of 16-2-1, a two-weight champion with big wins over world level fighters in Mikaela Mayer and Ivana Habazin, as well as a split decision draw against Yorkshire’s Terri Harper.
Lauren Price, meanwhile, whilst only holding a professional record of 8-0, has a resume no less impressive than her opponent. An Olympic Gold medal at Tokyo in 2021, followed by a World Title win after just seven professional fights, ‘The Lucky One’ has already achieved almost everything one can in the sport.
With all this, the fight is not one that needs a great deal of promoting. The more experienced Jonas will look to test Price who is yet to drop even a round in the pro ranks. Price, however, will hope to continue her momentum with a win, putting her just one fight from Undisputed Champion status, a feat that could be achieved in just ten fights.
The Undercard
The only confirmed card to be placed on the undercard currently is a domestic clash between Boxxer’s Karriss Artingstall and Queensberry’s Raven Chapman, with an aim to put the British Featherweight Title on the line. Both fighters have noted it should be a fiery affair set to steal the show.
Elsewhere on the card WBC and IBO World Champion, Caroline Dubois will look to continue her quest to clean up the lightweight division. Whilst no opponent is currently confirmed it is expected that WBO champion Terri Harper will be the one to lace up the gloves opposite ‘Sweet Caroline’.
Making her pro-debut on the legendary card is Refugee Team Olympic Bronze Medalist Cindy Ngamba, who looks to build on her success as the Refugee Team’s first Boxer to pick up a medal. As per an interview with the Puncher’s Chance, Ngamba expects her style to suit the professional game to a tee.
To top off the confirmed fighters on the card, 5-0 prospect Francesca Hennessy is set for a “historic fight” in her own words, the deal for the fight yet to be done.
Fran is just 20-years-old and has previously stated aims to become the youngest Boxing Champion of all time, beating Mike Tyson’s record of twenty years and four months, a record that has unfortunately passed her by.
Boxer turned Professional Fighting League star Savannah Marshall has expressed her intent to be on the card, however this is no guarantee due to contractual obligations with the PFL. Once again as per The Puncher’s Chance, Savannah Marshall has admitted she has missed the sport of Boxing.
