Three Players West Ham Should Target In The 2025 January Transfer Window

It is fair to say that this season hasn’t gone to plan for the Hammers. Following their massive summer upheaval of bringing in a new manager and ten new signings, the results so far this season have been very disappointing with fans before the start of the season predicting them to challenge for the European places in the league.

Head Coach Julen Lopetegui has come under serious scrutiny in recent weeks, as it has been reported yesterday by multiple news outlets that the Spaniard has been sacked from his role.

There have been question marks about the future of technical director Tim Steidten also, as he has been asked to stay away from the training ground amid Lopetegui’s struggles, very similar to what happened under David Moyes.

We will look into 3 players who could improve West Ham under the next rumoured manager which is looking likely to be Graham Potter.

Evan Ferguson

There have been reports that the Republic of Ireland international is available on loan this transfer window, as he looks to secure some first-team minutes, as they have been very limited under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

If West Ham were able to pick him up on loan with an option to buy in the summer, it could be a seriously impressive coup considering the potential that the forward has.

Ferguson would suit West Ham’s play very well with his physicality, hold-up play and his ability to win headers from set pieces, and with the only two fit strikers at the club being Niclas Fullkrug and Danny Ings, this position must be seen as a must for those in Claret and Blue.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

So far this season, West Ham’s midfield has been very lacklustre over this season and keeps being exposed to very heavy defeats.

A signing like Dewsbury-Hall would be a very astute piece of business as the Chelsea midfielder hasn’t featured much this season and can play across the whole of the middle of the park if needed and is situated very well as that box-to-box midfielder that saw him thrive at Leicester in the Championship last season.

He recorded 12 goals and 14 assists which would add some much-needed chance creation and lethality in front of goal to the Hammers midfield where players like Paqueta haven’t quite been up to the races so far this season.

With rumours persisting that defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez looking to move back to Spain in this transfer window, adding a midfielder with this sort of prowess would be a fantastic piece of business.

Tiago Santos

This is much more of an unknown signing, however, if it was pulled off, would be very impressive and a signing of intent. Tiago Santos is a 22-year-old Portuguese right-back but is able to operate on both sides similarly to how Aaron Wan-Bissaka has in periods this season.

The Lille fullback played a crucial role in guiding them into the Champions League last season and boasts some great defensive statistics.

The Portuguese under-21s international averages over 2 tackles and ball recoveries per game and 1.6 clearances also, he isn’t the most physical but West Ham’s other midfielders and defenders can help with this as he has only won 36% of aerial duels, but what he lacks in height, he makes up for in his impressive 1v1 ability with winning an impressive 63% of duels.

With the imminent sacking of Julen Lopetegui in the works, expect West Ham to start becoming a lot more active in the transfer market with the announcement of a new manager also.
